A “catastrophic” break Saturday in the steel tubes and 10 feet wide that has been installed in recent years have made the water in Boston, and more than twenty of the suburbs is not safe to drink, forcing Gov. Deval Patrick to declare a state of emergency.
The State has ordered to boil water to provide drinking water in the 30 affected communities, which include 2000000 700000 people in families.
It was a broken pipe in Weston, about 10 miles west of Boston, and the water leak in the Charles River near the rate of 8 million gallons an hour, according to State officials. The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is able to take advantage of the water supply in emergency situations of different tanks for bathing, cleaning and fire protection. The State issued a boil water order, however, because it is not dealt with drinking water.
Called the director of the Frederick Laskey end of the first half, “unprecedented” and said it came in the vital area in the system.
“It’s highly unusual and catastrophic in nature,” he said.
