Bishwakarma Puja, or Jayanti Biswakarma, is an important festival in Bengal, Orissa and other parts of East India, is devoting itself to Bisvakarma, the divine architect of the universe in the Hindu religion. In 2010, the date of Biswakarma Puja is Sept. 17. The festival is celebrated mainly in the eastern parts of India and that is a holiday for the industrial belts in this part of India. Kite flying is one of the main activities in the day.
In Hindu mythology, Bishwakarma is the architect of the divine universe. It is also called the divine carpenter and is mentioned in the Rigveda, and is credited with Sthapatya Veda, mechanics and architecture.
Craftsmen and artisans, mechanics, blacksmiths, welding, industrial workers, factory workers and workers of all kind Biswakarma worship the Lord on this day, and pray in order to improve the conditions of a secure future, work and above all success in their respective fields. Workers also pray for the proper functioning of various machinery.
